Panerai’s link to the sea has been well documented. From their role as precision instruments for the Italian Navy to the creation of the Luminor line of dive watches, Panerai has long been on the world’s finest seafaring watch brands in the world. The PAM764 Luminor Yachts Challenge is no different. Complete with a corrosion-resistant titanium case, in-house P.9100 flyback movement, this is a timepiece that is meant for both the diver and the sailor. Plus, given its beautifully aggressive aqua blue subdials, this is a watch that is both a beauty on the wrist and will also serve its job on the water.

Note the PCYC letters inscribed on the dial of both this 764 and the black ceramic PAM788 – these letters stand for Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. The PCYC was the name for the Classic Yacht Owners Association until 2019. This club is a classic yachting racing club in New England and is something of a sailing version of historic motorsport racing.

Even if you’re not a racer or a sailor, the PAM764 makes an incredibly attractive watch for both the land and sea. This version is housed in a brushed titanium case with the same black/blue/white dial as the black ceramic treatment. Both versions are powered by the aforementioned P.9100, good for a three-day power reserve.

However, it’s not the reserve that sets this watch apart, it’s the flyback chronograph. The first thing that sets the 764 apart is its left-mounted pushers. A flyback chronograph is a chrono whose hands can be returned instantly to zero and restarted without having to stop them, making them ideal for racing applications and timing lap times. Regardless of what type of racing that you love, this stunning Luminor Yachts Challenge will do what you need it to do without issue.
