If anything, Grand Seiko is a cutting edge movement company. While the Japanese watch company is most known for its marquee Spring Drive, there is another heir to the throne - the Hi-Beat 36,000. This movement gets its name from its name from the vph speed. Much like the Zenith Espada movement in their El Primero, the Hi-Beat moves at 36,000 vibrations per hour or 5 Hz.

Thanks to its faster heartbeat, Grand Seiko is able to get more precision in timepieces that use the Hi-Beat than in watches that use movements that run at a standard 28,800 vph or slower. While some movement makers will argue that a faster heartbeat will preserve their movements over a longer lifetime, the quality of the GS movement ensures that this movement will live just as long as a standard movement. Plus, if you thought that the Spring drive was the only trick up Seiko's sleeve, you were wrong.
